Expanding Cultural Diversity through the Web

Without a doubt, knowing that we all come from different places is important. As educators, we should be relaying this message to all of our students regardless of the subject we teach. The world that we are creating,-part of is ever growing closer together yet at the same time reaffirming perceived divisions. This is the world our students will inherit; we must teach them how to participate in the construction of and control the narrative of their lives.

For too long my generation and the ones that proceeded have viewed the world through a lens that highlights the difference places, country, state, city that we all come from. The values that we share are obstructed through these lenses- we become out of focus and unclear. Our students should not share this same flawed perspective. We have the best opportunity to show them and teach them how to use Web 2.0 tools to start changing the narrative of their lives, to change the ever cloudy lens of division.

  1. Technology unity among diversity is a growing issue in today’s society. The next generation of employees in the workforce and the all-ready growing generation of students are extremely diverse. The need for unity among diversity is not being met, especially in our rapidly growing technology centered society. Do to the rapidly growth of technology in the classroom and diversity of students the issue faced today of a lack of unity among diversity when dealing with technology in the schools needs to be addressed. Two questions Why is it important? and What can we do? arise when dealing with the issue of diversity and technology. I feel these two questions must be addressed in order to be competitive in tomorrow’s technology infrastructure and computer integrated future not to mention teaching and training children properly to be successful in college and the workplace. 2. Cool videos! I think technology can really increase global awareness and help students to learn about diversity. Video pen-pals could be a great way for students to learn about other cultures and customs directly from students their age in other countries.
